The Challenge....

Controlling Your Mind

Self Talk: 365 D1

Happy Yoga Sutra Friday!

1.2 Yogas chitta vrtti Nirodha – yoga is the control of the mind

Hard, I know, but if you think about it, our thoughts are so important to our daily lives. Can we stay true to our values, wants and needs… or do we take a bite of that cookie, have that glass of wine or buy that new dress when there are three in the closet that still have tags? Deeper than that, the dwelling, how we think of situations in the past; would have, should have, could have…

Controlling your mind with meditation:

One minute or if you feel brave, five minutes: sit comfortably, set a timer, close your eyes and focus on the breath. Thoughts will come but go back to the breath. When the timer dings, give yourself a moment, let the eye ease open.

How do you feel?

Allow yourself to notice your thoughts through out your day. How are they making you feel? If fantastic is not your answer, you have some work to do.

So just for today, let’s stay in this moment. Face what we have today and possibly enjoy that moment. Enjoy this day!

Today’s thought is from “The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali”

Translation from Pandit Rajmani Tigunait

Yoga union, balance; harmonious state of mind

Chitta mind

Vṛtti thought constructs; modifications; that which rotates like a wheel; movement.

Nirodha = ni + rodha
   Ni completely; in every respect; from every direction.
   Rodha confining; restraining; disciplining; not allowing to roam aimlessly.
